Leadership, Management, Innovation and Enterprise

Leadership and management skills and the ability to innovate are the skills identified as essential for the organisational change needed by British business if they are to develop new “high value” products and services to compete in a global context. This is especially true in West Yorkshire where leadership and management skills have been identified as needing development across all of the WYLLN sectors.

Leadership, management, innovation and enterprise are clearly identified as lacking across all sectors and as a major barrier to business growth. Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency, has also identified, that despite the number of universities located in West Yorkshire, and using all measures of innovation such as new patents, there are low levels of high value start ups and business spin offs, too few high value jobs, and poor levels leadership and management in the West Yorkshire area to secure the future prosperity of the region. This is particularly important given the primacy of West Yorkshire in the Yorkshire and Humber regional economy.

The aim of WYLLN's leadership, management, innovation and enterprise sector group is to promote and develop opportunities for progression to learners in West Yorkshire to enable them to acquire the higher level leadership and management skills necessary for a vibrant and dynamic regional economy.
