Culture, Media, Sports and the Arts; Leisure, Hospitality and Tourism
There are many projects and curriculum activities in place within the HE sector across West Yorkshire aimed at enabling arts and media students to develop entrepreneurial skills. How this delivery is happening in reality, and how effective it is in terms of developing the skills, behaviours and attitudes graduates looking to become entrepreneurs & self employed practitioners need for today’s economic markets has been the focus of two research projects commissioned by the WYLLN Culture, Media, Sports and the Arts; Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure sector group and the WYLLN Leadership, Management, Innovation and Enterprise sector group.
The two projects have both explored entrepreneurial skills development within the creative sector context. One project has focused on the entrepreneurial skills development being offered to graduates within higher education creative arts and media courses within two FE colleges and three universities in West Yorkshire, whilst the other project has focused on the skills, behaviours and attributes displayed and valued by practitioners who have become successful creative entrepreneurs both within West Yorkshire and beyond.
There are also a couple of key reports that would offer an additional background to the above work ‘Capturing the Enterprise Potential of Young People’ commissioned by Business Link and NESTA’s report ‘Developing Entrepreneurial Graduates – Putting Entrepreneurship at the Centre of Higher Education’ 2008
