Logistics Academy Yorkshire and Humber (LAYH)
In this project, the Port and Logistics Centre of Vocational Excellence at Hull College, along with a range of partners from across Yorkshire & Humber aims to:
> Create a powerful, employer-led regional centre of excellence, to set new standards of how to design and deliver skills training for the Logistics Sector and to ensure more effective business outputs.
> Attract significant employer investment in skills, learning and continuous professional development as part of the partnership between the state, employers and learners
This project is joint funded by the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network (WYLLN) and the Yorkshire & Humber East Lifelong Learning Network (YHELLN).
The Logistics Academy Yorkshire and Humber (LAYH) is the culmination of a Bilateral LSC/Skills for Logistics National Agreement of 2007 that seeks;
“To identify with each region viable hub and spoke solutions which effectively responds to employers needs…..”
The Consortium has been awarded the contract by Skills for Logistics to run the Logistics Academy Yorkshire and Humber (LAYH) and was complimented by the Selection Panel on its geographical spread, the facilities offered, expertise in delivery to the sector and the high standards of its partners.
A key LAYH focus will be that of the Skills for Logistics Professional Development Stairway which will inform and direct the continuous professional development of those working in the ports and logistics sector, facilitating a seamless path of progression from the new starter to the senior director, from entry level to level 8 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in the United Kingdom.
LAYH will be driven by the needs of local and regional employers and its programmes, products and services will evolve to meet these needs. Engagement with Skills for Logistics, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the freight logistics industries, is accentuated by the support of and the ongoing working relationship with Go Skills the SSC for the Passenger Transport industries and with Port Skills and Safety (PSS) , the ports industry’s organisation for health, safety, skills and standards.
