Progression Commissioning Round 1
Round 1 of Progression Commissioning invited proposals from organisations to investigate the academic and personal development support needed to enable modern apprentices and other part-time vocational learners to successfully progress from level 3 programmes to level 4 programmes, and to establish Progression Agreements for these learners.
3 organisations were successful in receiving a total of almost £50,000 from the WYLLN towards funding their projects.
The successful proposals were submitted by the University of Leeds, the University of Bradford/Bradford College and David Fisher who is currently employed by Wakefield College but will deliver his project as a self employed consultant.
The focus of the project delivered by the University of Leeds will be to formulate Progression Agreements between providers of part-time vocational qualifications in Social Care and/or Early years to relevant part-time programmes in the Lifelong Learning Centre at the University of Leeds. This activity will target Advanced Modern Apprentices and other part-time vocational learners in Social Care and Early Years who are nearing the completion of their programme.
The focus of the proposed activity from the University of Bradford/Bradford College is on Digital Industries and Health. The project will build on the successful Stepping Stones model which identifies and plans the interventions needed to support and encourage progression into higher education for those on vocational courses and for work-based learners such as apprentices. Progression Agreements will be established based on the WYLLN framework using the Stepping Stones work as the basis. This will unify the disparate activities taking place under the current model and will build on the networks, knowledge and practice already established.
David Fisher plans to target Advanced Apprentices, and learners undertaking training at Level 3 and above under the Train to Gain initiative. The focus of this activity will be in the following areas: ICT and Print, Health, Sports, Leisure, Tourism and Hospitality. Progression Agreements will be established with Higher Education providers in consultation with the Sector and Progression Manager.
