WYLLN IAG Commissioning - Round 2

This round of IAG Commissioning sought to answer a need which WYLLN had identified, for the development and provision of sector specific employer engagement and employee support IAG services contributing to the Higher Level Skills Development within businesses across West Yorkshire.

The Commissioning offer was split into 3 separate projects:

• IAG Sector Specific Employer Engagement activity.
• IAG Sector Specific Employer Engagement activity targeted towards the employers of Work Based Learners and Advanced Modern Apprentices.
• The delivery of Sector Specific in-company IAG supporting Higher Level Skills Development.

Following the review panel three of the four submitted projects were successful in bidding for commissioning, the successful institutions are Leeds College of Building, the University of Huddersfield and Calderdale College.

Leeds College of Building submitted a proposal involving the wider partnership throughout West Yorkshire. The proposal covers all 3 projects within the Construction and the Built Environment Sector, for which Leeds College of Building is the Sector Lead. The college plans to organise and deliver an innovative "Progression to HE" seminar with the aim of updating employers and employees in the current availability of course offers across the professional and technical areas of FE Level 3 including the new Advanced CBE Diploma and the HE sector in West Yorkshire by the end of March 2009.

Leeds College of Building also plans to provide 50 sector specific IAG interventions in companies by September 2008 supporting clients who would not normally have the time to access IAG to do so on their own terms and premises and at a time to suit them.

The proposal submitted by the University of Huddersfield again covers all 3 projects and will deliver activity across 4 of the 7 sectors, including the Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Sector for which the University of Huddersfield is the Sector Lead.

The 3rd successful proposal was submitted by Calderdale College and will cover the Health, Social Care and Early Years, Management, Leadership, Innovation and Enterprise and Construction and the Built Environment Sectors.

Calderdale College plans to approach the provision of IAG to the employees from an organisational perspective, but with the individual’s progression in mind.

Calderdale College will offer employers a ‘skills audit’ providing them with a snapshot of the organisation’s current skills capacity, identifying potential areas where there may be opportunity for ‘upskilling’ of the workforce as well as areas where there are skills gaps.

The WYLLN has provided over £100,000 to fund these 3 projects.
